American Media Distribution, americanmediad.com, americanmediadistribution.com,americanmediadist.com

OK, these guys are interesting. Lets hear something about them. This seems to be the new trend of freelancing by locally sourcing writers that do not leave their general area. I found out American Media Distribution has one of the largest freelancer pools out there. I want to know more. Please feel free to post experiences while I investigate.

  1. I have and I know American Media Distribution has like 1200 or 1300 reporters nation-wide now. They dole out freelance work and event coverage local to each reporter. I got a weird email from them to start but decided to follow it up after checking them out. I have been with them for about 3 years now. Steady occasional work.

  2. My wife works for them. They have her all over the place covering things. Checks come on time and they cash so keep em coming.

  3. I got an email from them and just didn't think much of it. Are you saying that was the way you started?

  5. My company has used them for a while now for wire services and press releases. Satisfactory - good results.

  6. From what I heard they were a content distributor streaming news to plasma screens around the world. American Media Distribution was one of the first to develop streaming software back in the 90's. Don't know if they still do that, but I would guess any PR releases have some kind of inside track to get to some nice places as I have seen American Media Distribution press releases come out on Headline News and CNN streaming on the bottom of the screen during news. I wanted to announce my wedding to surprise my fiance but I never got around to it! LOL

Our editorial department uses American Media Distribution all the time. American Media Distribution is catching up to the AP in regards to reporter pool size. I believe they are the second largest in the world now.

  8. American Media distribution has been around a long, long time in the background of event and news coverage and digital signage back in the day.

I just got to searching around about them out of curiosity and can't believe some of the stupid uninformed things people are saying. Some are even silly.

I have been with them for over 4 years. I do freelance work for them and am not counting on it for a living because I have another job, but I have not had a single problem with anyone over there. American Media Distribution actually helped me though a bad time when I lost my position with my main job's company by giving me work when I needed it until I got another job and everyone is extremely nice. I'm sorry, I would defend them to the end.

I also have not met another individual who has had a problem with them. And as writers you definitely would think complaints would be made against them on the BBB. that would be the first place I would go. Not a single one in over 5 years of their records.

    1. I agree DJ - BBB is one of the best places to check and if anyone thinks for a minute that editors and journalists WOULD NOT be writing all over the place on blogs and making complaints to the BBB, that is just silly.

Did someone out there say that DJ?

  9. No idea about the reporting side of things there. I did some network for cure thing. Not a big blogger here but I had to mention since I saw this comment place here that I renewed twice already. It didn't flood me at first but it seemed to build momentum. The slow part more than paid for it though.

  11. I an not a reporter but have done business with American Media Distribution's streaming truck and production crew div. Excellent service. The uplink prices were a bit expensive but we never lost signal and had a, great broadcast. I can't ask for anything more than that. Fairbury use them again. Everyone was nice as well.

  12. I just saw this blog. We received an email from American Media Distribution about a program and I was extremely leery but I took a look at their BBB and some other things around the net so I decided to call. Figured I could just hang up!

Turned out really well for us. I thought it was a too good to be true scenario, but it made sense when I had spoken with the person who sent me the email.

I entered some project and they gave me a bunch of free services just for answering some questions. Research thing I guess. Kind of turned out really well. maybe it was really a customer loyalty thing as free always gets me loyal!! We are looking into other services they may have. Have not bought anything yet but will keep everyone posted. Everyone was really nice and good attentive customer service. I was surprised.

  14. American Media Distribution is a very interesting company after I did some real research. They actually look like they developed some of the first streaming software that delivers news to plasma screens around the world. Then they turned into a freelance for hire firm and self generating wire service content distribution which looks like it went international at this point. After hunting down and speaking with several people they are just a very private industry only type of firm the seems to treat their customers and employees very well. I have not had first hand experience but that is what I have heard from speaking with both employees and some editors I work with.

  15. Totally, they are huge and I hear nothing but good things about this American Media Distribution. My friend did some business with them and she said they were wonderful to work with.

  16. I had done business with them on and off for 5 years now. Never had a complaint. They actually always end up giving us more than we paid for... LOL rare..I guess it works because we only go to them for our news broadcast up-links. We used to have a couple of vendors but only use them now .

  17. I forgot to mention they just upgraded their up-link trucks and man those still have the brand new truck smell! LOL
